It’s finally arrived – your dream come true! Wedding plans are underway and it’s time to choose your wedding dress. However, choosing your wedding dress can be a very stressful and difficult process for every bride. It is a time of joy and celebration and every bride wants their wedding to become the most memorable event of their lives. Naturally you want to look your best and so a lot of attention must be given to even the tiniest of details.
Here are some basic tips for selecting your dream wedding dress for your big day:
Financial consideration obviously plays a huge role and so your wedding budget will play a big part in determining what dress you can afford to buy. Try to look at dresses that are only within your price range so that you’re not tempted at any point to overspend. Remember that it’s so easy to make an emotional decision when it comes to buying your dress. Note to self : take someone with who can help you keep within your budget!
Choosing the right style for you before visiting any wedding dress outlet, is always a good decision – so go through magazines and online websites to get a better idea of what you really want. One thing to keep in mind is what the weather is going to be like on your wedding day. If you’re getting married in winter, you don’t want to choose a strapless gown no matter how much you love the style!
Because you have so much to achieve in terms of your planning, create a shortlist of the designers or bridal shops you are interested in and if possible, make appointments to see them. Popular designers and shops might take lots of time to customise a wedding dress according to your needs so plan shopping for your dress well enough in advance to accommodate any unplanned changes.
You don’t want to rush or buy a wedding dress in a hurry. Rather, give yourself enough time to make your decision patiently with all the considerations before you.
Before selecting your dream wedding dress do keep in mind the colours and theme of your wedding as well as the colours of your bridesmaids’ dresses. A well-established and experienced bridal shop will be able to advise you on your dress and your bridesmaids’ dresses taking your whole wedding party into consideration.
Last but not least – have fun! This is an exciting time and will be very emotional all-round but surround yourself with fun-loving friends and family and just enjoy the whole process as it unfolds!
Trash the Dress
“Trash the dress”, also known as “fearless bridal” or “rock the frock”, is a style of wedding photography that contrasts elegant clothing with an environment in which it is out of place. It is generally shot in the style of fashion or glamour photography.
Such photography often takes place on a beach, but other locations include city streets, rooftops, garbage dumps, fields, and abandoned buildings. You wear your wedding dress and effectively ruin the dress in the process by getting it wet, dirty, or, in extreme circumstances, tearing or destroying the garment.
Being grossly old-fashioned, I personally find this absurd to say the least but nevertheless, it is very fashionable right now and it is something that you may want to consider. In the good old days, our mom’s packed away their dresses in the hope that their daughters would one day use them and whilst this may feel rather nostalgic and romantic, it probably isn’t something that works for everyone.
Some sources claim that the trend for trashing the dress was originally started in 2001 by Las Vegas wedding photographer John Michael Cooper. However, the idea of destroying a wedding dress has been used in Hollywood symbolically since at least October 1998 when Meg Cummings of the show Sunset Beach ran into the ocean in her wedding dress after her wedding was interrupted.
So whether or not you decide to trash your dress, we thought we’d make you aware of this slightly weird but possibly fun activity and yes do agree, could make some really amazing photographs!
